Today, data is everywhere. It drives decisions. It powers solutions. It builds insight. It makes Morrisons.
When it comes to retail on the scale that we work at, data is our lifeblood. And the volume of data we create from sales, orders, recipes, customers, suppliers, products and more is huge. It’s already one of the most exciting industries to work in, but with data like ours, backed up by a cloud based strategy and a commitment to Agile and DevOps ways of working, we’re taking it one step further.
However, there’s more to the story than just data. On its own, data doesn’t help us improve our sales, increase productivity, or make our brand more ‘sticky’. To do that, we also need the right skills, attitudes and tools. Which is where our Data team comes in.
They’re responsible for taking the data we have and squeezing the most value from it. It’s about making sure everyone treats data as one of our most valuable assets. After all, we think it’s just as important as products we sell and the money we earn.
Our Data team is split into two parts, both of which play an incredibly important role across our business:
Data Management and Quality - Our Data Management and Quality team helps everyone manage their data, and improve its accuracy and usability. It’s about Data Governance Managers, Analysts and Architects working closely with data owners and getting involved in big projects and exciting initiatives to make sure that our data is always ready and always accessible.
Business Intelligence and reporting - Our Business Intelligence and Reporting team are responsible for provisioning our data so our colleagues can report on it and make informed decisions. You’ll find Solution Architects, Product Owners and Data Engineers exploring the latest cloud technologies and visualisation tools to put the enormous power of our data in the hands of everyone who needs it.
