We design, build, develop and maintain more than 500 properties across the UK, from our stores and manufacturing sites to our distribution centres and our Bradford head office. All to provide the best shopping experiences for our customers and great working environments for our colleagues.

We’re building something special
Our property team manages 454 suppliers who help us to deliver £350m+ of capital and operational investment every year. Our estates team manage a £6bn property portfolio including 29.5m ft2 of retail space and 10.5m ft2 of manufacturing and distribution hubs.
Then there’s our energy team. They manage a £190m utilities budget, and what’s even more impressive is that in 2019/20 they saved us £5 million in electricity costs alone. That’s enough to charge 1.9 billion smartphones. When it comes to property, the scale is huge - and the challenges are, too.

Design Standards and Specifications
We design how our stores are going to look. From the tiles on the floor to just the right amount of lighting, every detail is meticulously planned to make sure our customers enjoy the best possible shopping experience.
Format and Layout
We make the most of the space in stores of all shapes and sizes. We listen to our customers, look at store sales data and decide how much store space each area should have. It’s why some stores have bigger produce or frozen departments than others.
Our construction team is responsible for every bit of construction at our stores. We build new stores. We plan major extensions. And we make minor adjustments to keep our stores looking great.
We keep all of our sites in tiptop shape, maintaining everything to the highest of standards for our customers and colleagues. As well as a nationwide team of maintenance surveyors, we’ve a dedicated helpdesk, so we can quickly respond to any issues.
Asset & Estates
We acquire the land we need to grow and develop new stores and sites. We also manage our existing diverse property portfolio. This includes all kinds of shop units in our stores for businesses that range from key cutters to opticians to travel agents.
Our Cost Management team prepare cost estimates for everything from a refit of an old store, to the design and construction of a brand new store.
Our Location Planning team looks after sales forecasting for new Morrisons stores, ranging from 5,000sqft to 37,000sqft, as well as the redevelopment and expansion of existing stores. It’s all about combining detailed geodemographic data and sophisticated mapping software, with close monitoring and analysis of competitor activity across the country. All to help us make the right decisions for our customers.
No-one likes bills. But our energy team take them in their stride. They’re responsible for our electricity, gas, and water usage across our retail, manufacturing and logistic sites, which represents a significant cost for us. They work on our capital investments in energy saving projects, stay up to date with new technology like real-time data, and keep us on track to meet our commitment to be Net Zero by 2040.
We take on all kinds of projects - big and small
With multiple teams taking on all kinds of projects, no two days are ever the same in property.
A typical day for our Format & Store Layouts team might involve reviewing store refit drawings. Our Cost team could be preparing cost estimates for a brand new store. And our Estates Team could be meeting a developer.
Our Location Planning team could be analysing a store's sales potential. Our Construction team could be out scoping projects, at a design team meeting or monitoring build progress. While our Maintenance team could be on site at a store dealing with a severe weather event such as flood or snow.
The list is endless.
Something for everyone
Across our property team, you’ll find everyone from Construction Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors, Estates Surveyors, and Architects & Engineers, to Refrigeration and Maintenance Engineers, qualified energy professionals, and more.
And our career paths are just as varied. You could join us at an entry level as an Assistant Project Manager, you could be a CAD trainee, or you could take on a junior role in estate management. But that’s just the beginning. We offer incredible training for the right people to learn new technical skills in construction, surveying and architectural design. And if you’re already at a more senior level, your skills in supplier management, stakeholder management or project management could really make an impact here.
Either way, we look for strong organisational, time management and planning skills for our Construction and Project Management teams. We look for analytical & logical approaches, and plenty of attention to detail for our Cost and Location Planning teams.
