
Health & Safety Specialist

We’ve got an opportunity for a Health & Safety Specialist to join our International Seafood Manufacturing Site in Grimsby.
The successful candidate will support the delivery of the Morrisons Manufacturing Health & Safety Strategy within the sites to drive Health & Safety Standard at sites today, Supporting our colleagues to ensure everyone’s safety is at the forefront of everything they do. You’ll also focus on effectively Integrating with the site leadership team to drive compliance to Health & Safety, supporting Environmental standards and to ensure high colleague engagement across the site. In addition to site leadership you’ll also support sites to drive continual improvements in their safety culture and all aspects of Health & Safety, including policies, procedures and risk assessments.
The role will also be responsible for the following:
- Ensure the site management team, colleagues & visitors comply with Health and Safety legislation and adhere to Morrisons policy and procedure in relation to safe working practices.
- Listening & responding to colleagues at all levels with the goal of supporting site to continually improve the Health and Safety culture and reducing risk
- Any amends, improvements or updates to the sites Health, Safety and Environmental management system are documented, guidance updated and effectively communicated
- Act with integrity at all times to drive the Health and Safety culture at site
- Ensure full compliance with all operational standards/ specifications /policy and procedures.
- Oversee the site Health & Safety Management System, risk assessments, policies, procedures, and audits, based on site specific information and needs
- Manage contacts from authorities, working with external partners as required; Legal, Consultants etc.
- Oversee accidents, incidents, dangerous occurrences, safety observations and ensure cases of occupational ill health are fully investigated using root cause analysis, and support site(s) to implement measures to prevent reoccurrence
- Support the Environmental management, permits and authority engagement, e.g. effluent plants, draining to the watercourse, fuel spillages, etc
- Completes independent Health & Safety audits of site, supporting the sites to close out corrective actions
- Provides independent investigations of accidents, incidents and whistle-blowers, reporting to the HSE as required
- Escalate high risk, incidents and decisions to Management for review and support
- Coordinate and manage enforcement contacts and challenges to a resolution
- Monitor and maintain compliance with safe working practices and workplace hygiene levels
- Ensure all colleagues are trained in Health and Safety to the required level to do their role
- Build great relationships with internal stakeholders at other sites, sharing best practice and proactively supports and coaches all colleagues ensuring Health and Safety is prioritised on site
About you
What skills and experience do Morrisons' Health & Safety Specialists need?
- You must have a NEBOSH General Certificate with extensive Health & Safety experience ideally gained in warehousing/ logistics/distribution or FMCG Manufacturing A NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent is highly desirable
- Experience of working in a fast paced operational environment, managing multiple stakeholders with an ability to deliver results
- Experience of building great relationships with peers, sharing best practice whilst proactively supporting and coaching colleagues, ensuring Health and Safety is at the forefront
- Experience of driving key performance indicators and how to influence them to improve audit scores, accident statistics and reduce near misses.
- Understand the impact of unsafe working practices and how this can damage stock/product which will impact service to sites
- A sound knowledge of the wider supply chain, ensuring safe working practices are maintained Confident, self starter who can implement all safe systems of work to include risk assessment, accident reporting and experience of delivering onsite compliance

Online Assessment (Customer Assistant roles)
After your application, we might send you an e-mail and ask you to complete an online assessment. This is typically a situation judgement test where we'll ask you ten questions with mutliple choice answers and takes around 10-15 minutes to complete. The questions will give you a feel for the types of scenarios you might encounter working in our stores - think customer first.

For other roles our resourcing team will get in touch with you to find out a bit more about you and why you applied. They'll also answer any questions you might have about us and the role. Interview
Our interviews are typically face to face but can sometimes be virtual. Don't worry, we'll advise either way. Your interview can differ depending on the role or team. Part of the interview may include some competency questions against our Ways of Working (listed below).

Final Stage
With some of our roles there might be a second interveiw. This tends to be for roles in our Head Office and some salaried positions across our stores and sites. As part of this second stage, we might ask you to complete a task, such as a SWOT analysis or something similar, and present it back during the interview. This helps us understand your approach and thinking about the role.
