Myton Food Group is one of the UK’s largest food manufacturers, opening its first factory in West Yorkshire in 1976. Myton specialises in the processing & packing of fresh meats and fish, pies, flower bouquets, produce and eggs, distributing to major retailers, manufacturers and food service customers.

We love nothing more than providing top quality food to our customers but we couldn’t do any of this without our engineers. Their advanced skill set makes it possible for us to create and innovate incredible products.

This apprenticeship offers an exciting opportunity to build your technical skills while earning and gaining professional qualifications.

What our 4-year programme involves

This is a great place to develop your technical skills and learn to become a multi-skilled maintenance engineer in the fast-paced world of food manufacturing.

Learning on-the-job at the heart of the action, you’ll gain a full understanding of Mechanical and Electrical engineering maintenance alongside food safety, compliance and processing procedures.

At college you will study:

  • Mechanical Maintenance
  • Electrical Maintenance
  • Automation & PLC’s
  • Materials Science
  • Engineering Maths
  • Fluid Power (Hydraulics / Pneumatics)
  • Continuous Improvement Practices
  • Sustainability 
  • Machining & Welding

You'll spend time away at Kirklees College, our training provider, on a block release basis over the course of the 3 years, your final year will be back at working in one of our sites.

Year 1 = 20 weeks 

Year 2 = 14 weeks

Year 3 = 10 weeks

As part of the apprenticeship you’ll also attend an Outward Bound residential development week, too. Here, you'll gain confidence as it encourages you to push yourself outside of your comfort zone.

As an apprentice you will be training at the college’s multi-million pound Process Manufacturing Centre in Huddersfield, which offers industry standard equipment and was the first centre of its kind to offer Food and Drink manufacturing apprenticeships in Northern England.

What you’ll study towards:

  • OAL Level 3 Diploma in Food and Drink Engineering Maintenance
  • Certificate of Apprenticeship - FDQ Food and Drink Engineering Maintenance Award
  • 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (2382-22)
  • Food Safety Level 2
  • HACCP Level 2
  • Health & Safety Level 2

What you’ll need:

  • Achieved a Level 4 or above in GCSE Maths and English.
  • UK Drivers License
